What is Trigger Finger?
Trigger Finger, also known as stenosing tenosynovitis, is a condition that affects the tendons in your fingers or thumb, causing them to catch or lock when you try to bend or straighten them. It occurs when inflammation narrows the space within the tendon sheath, making finger movement stiff or painful.
Symptoms You May Notice
- A finger that catches, pops, or locks when bending or straightening
- Pain or tenderness at the base of the affected finger or thumb
- Stiffness, especially in the morning
- A small bump or nodule near the base of the finger
- Finger may get stuck in a bent position and suddenly release
How We Diagnose It
Dr. Pittas will review your symptoms, examine the affected finger, and perform gentle motion tests to assess catching or locking. In most cases, no imaging is needed for diagnosis.
